Description

The Milk Thistle Silymarin is a plant belonging to the sunflower family and has ancient origins in the Mediterranean. Initially it was used for liver problems and as an antidote for mushroom poisoning throughout Europe. Silymarin is the active compound in the Milk Thistle seed extract (Silybum Marianum). It is a flavonolignan comprised of several other flavonolignans: silybin or silibinin are the most abundant. All parts of the plant contain silymarin, but the seed containgin especially high levels. Medical silymarin is extracted from milk thistle seeds.
