Description
The buchu (Agathosma betulina or Barosma betulina) is a small perennial shrub plant (it can reach a maximum of one meter in height) with white or pink flowers of about one cm; belongs to the Rutaceae family. It is a plant of South African origin, but is also grown in some areas of South America. The parts that are used for phytotherapeutic purposes are the leaves, which are collected during the flowering and fruiting periods.
Benefits
In the 19th century, buchu was made official as a drug for the treatment of cystitis, urethritis, nephritis and bladder phlegm. Even today, in general, this is the phytotherapeutic use for which it is intended; it is also recommended to treat prostatitis and irritable bladder syndrome; as a vaginal douche, the hole is recommended in the treatment of leucorrhoea and candidiasis.
